I am 65 years old and had two dozens (maybe three) of guitar preamps over the last decades. The by far best clean sound is delivered by the Two Notes Revolt but that preamp is expensive (for what it is) and its crunch and lead channels are not very convincing. Enters the TC Combo Deluxe 65'. It is super simple, costs only little money and SOUNDS GREAT. The sounds really come close to the original Fender amps of the mid-1960s ALSO/EVEN when overdriven. The latter gives a lovely fine inter-reacting sound (remember BB King?), quite different from most other pedals. Anyhow this preamp is meant for predominantly clean players. I have abandoned heavy sounds and am now trying to achieve soft and clean jazz sounds. This TC preamp and then a MXR 10 band EQ (in V setting) into a Harley Benton GPA-100 into a Laney LT 112 cabinet: total bliss. Or, even better, first a Revolt (giving a V-set EQ and smoothening attacks) and then the TC and Laney cab (MXR not needed anymore): best sound I ever had.
The only (small) thing that I might wish to see differently is the reverb decay time. Like in the original spring reverb amps it is rather short. I would prefer an longer reverb decay time. Yesn that is only a matter of taste, not quality. I just ordered a second (spare) TC preamp. This may say a lot.
