Ludwig L203 Speed King Pedal

Purchased this one based on online reviews and quite a few YT videos. This purchase was meant to replace the Yamaha Dragon Fly in my possession, and it did, completely. Even though they are both direct drives, this one feels to be more analogous than the DragonFly. With DF I always had a bit of struggle to get the dynamics and movement right. Not the case with the Speed King.

Quality is excellent and the way it disassembles and fits within the pouch is great.

I’ve been using Ludwig Speed King pedals since I started playing drums, in 1978.
When they stopped being available a few years back I was “forced” in to trying to find a modern replacement. I never did. I tried a bunch of them though, but to no avail.
So, to say I’m happy with my new Speed King, even though I waited a long time for it, is an understatement. I love it. What a home run Ludwig! What a home run! Thanks.

I bought this beast a year ago, and it’s hands down one of the best investments I’ve made. The Ludwig Speed King is a true classic, offering incredible responsiveness that lets you refine your footwork, control rebounds, and really dial in your groove. No wonder John Bonham swore by it back in the day. This thing is built for serious players.

It’s also super easy to disassemble, making it perfect for gigs, rehearsals, or wherever you need to take it. For the price, it’s absolutely worth it and outperforms many modern pedals on the market. A top-tier choice for drummers who value feel and durability!

Cette pédale, c'est un rêve de gosse. Le retour au basique, sans réglages complexes. Je suis habitué aux PEARL Eliminator et TAMA SpeedCobra, donc plutôt sur des modèles extrêmement précis, aux réglages inouïs.
Ce qui frappe ici, c'est l'enchaînement direct, les ressorts cachés à l'intérieur des deux bras et réglables par le-dessous avec un tournevis à tête plate, la batte en feutre très dense qui semble faite pour durer.
La semelle est très courte pour un habitué des longboards de chez TAMA et même de l'Eliminator. Ça demande un peu de maîtrise mais on l'a rapidement sous le pied.
Les avantages: très véloce, réponse dynamique très large (convient à des jeux très fins jazz mais également aux marteleurs à la Bonham). Le jeu "à plat" procure une sensation inégalée par rapport aux autres pédales plus modernes.
Les inconvénients: déplaira sans doute aux batteurs cherchant à avoir des coups à la dynamique appuyée et régulière dans des tempi rapides. C'est pas trop fait pour le blast... Quoique...
Bref: la légende est de retour pour celles et ceux comme moi qui affectionne LUDWIG et les batteurs chevillés à la Speed King!
