De Kemper profiling techniek maakt de creatie van een zeer precieze, sonische afbeelding (profiel) van een bestaande versterkerconfiguratie (samen met box en miking) mogelijk. Dankzij de vele interne bewerkingsopties zoals diverse effectpedaalemulaties (tot en met 4 gelijktijdig), master effecten, equalizer, gain, amp definition, power sagging enz., kan men de gecreëerde klank nog uitgebreider dan de mogelijkheden van de originele versterker bewerken. De Kemper Profiling Amplifier wordt echter ook al met een groot aantal uitstekende versterkerprofielen geleverd, waardoor de creatie van een eigen profiel niet dringend noodzakelijk is. Hierdoor is het eerst mogelijk om de klank van de eigen versterker exact af te beelden, (indien gewenst) te modificeren en zonder al te veel moeite te oefenen, en in de studio of op het podium beschikbaar te hebben.

German firm Kemper Amps, or rather its founder Christoph Kemper, is no stranger to the music industry. The ideal accessory: The Kemper Remote

The Kemper Profiler Remote is a floorboard that is compatible with every amp in the Profiling series and can be used to remotely control and enhance all of the Kemper’s key functions, making it the perfect addition to any setup. It features a built-in tuner, four connections for expression pedals, and a large display that provides a clear overview of the presets and effects that are currently selected. What is more, the remote can also be used to control the Profiling Amplifier’s looper function, and its “Morph” function is a highly practical feature that can be used to seamlessly crossfade between one or more parameters – making the transition from a dry crunch to a lead sound with delay as simple as pressing a footswitch, for example.

In the spotlight: Profiling

In fundamental terms, the Kemper Profiler is primarily a highly specialised measuring device which, by means of a complicated algorithm, is capable of precisely replicating the tonal characteristics of a signal chain. Generally, this chain first and foremost includes the amplifier that is to be emulated, the cabinet to which this is connected, and the microphone that is placed in front of it. This standard setup can additionally be expanded by adding pedals, which can also be profiled as part of the chain if desired. An „amp only“ profile can of course be created, however, by connecting the amplifier to a DI box instead of a conventional speaker cabinet. To determine the characteristics of the individual signal chain, the Kemper then sends various measurement signals through the amplifier that is connected, on the basis of which it then creates a so-called “profile” – which even professional musicians have difficulty in distinguishing from the original in terms of sound and dynamics. The user can subsequently customise this profile by fine-tuning a range of different parameters before naming and saving it. In this way, players can archive their entire amplifier collection virtually without restriction and take it with them to gigs and into the studio.

De perfecte sound

Ik heb gekozen voor de Kemper als upgrade voor thuis- en livegebruik. Vooral live werd een Tube Head met 2x12 en pedalboard toch wel zwaar. Ik combineer de Kemper Head nu met de Remote en de Laney LFR-112 om live ook monitoring en feedback te hebben van een speaker.

Qua sounds en opties is de Kemper perfect. De amps voelen realistisch aan en klinken met nauwelijks tweaken fantastisch. Standaard zitten er bijna 300 rigs in waarmee je kan starten. Ik heb daarnaast een aantal Rig packs aangeschaft van Micheal Britt en Tonejunkie om meer keuze te hebben in sounds. Ik heb verschillende gitaren geprobeerd, maar een goede tone krijgen is makkelijk.

Er zijn stapels effecten beschikbaar, en met de 7.0 firmware is het makkelijk om een effect preset te selecteren (zeker even het updaten waard). Routing is misschien niet zo uitgebreid als units van de concurrentie, maar ik heb nog nooit zo snel een bruikbare sound gevonden die niet onder doet voor mijn tube amp.

Het programmeren van een live set in performance mode is even leren omdat dit sneller gaat via de Kemper dan via de Rig manager software, maar als je hier even voor gaat zitten kun je al je live sets vrij snel programmeren. Vooral met de remote vind ik dit de perfecte live oplossing.

Mocht je alleen live spelen dan is nu de stage versie een goede optie, maar ik heb gekozen voor de head omdat ik ook veel thuis speel en deze toch iets meer knoppen heeft voor snel instellingen tweaken.

Ok i got mine a week ago! This is thing is the future.. The possibilities are endless.
First and most importantly the sounds are the same as the real thing and i could dare to say that sometimes they are even better than the original tube amps because there is possibillity to further adjust the profile.
Another thing i noticed is that a lot of tube amps have a weird response in the low mid frequency range.. Especially when trying to heavy palm mute with high gain amps, many times you get the humming that is not good for anybody. With kemper you dont get that or if u do you can surely adjust it somehow.. Instead what you get with kemper is a flat response throughout the guitar scale, from the very low to the very high notes.
And to top all that you can get thousands of rigs for free through rig exchange and also sound quality gets better with each update and the kemper team looks like it is hard on work..
Also there are a lot of kickass delay features with the last version 5.1!!
