Ibanez ADMini Delay Pedal

Deze delay klinkt echt analoog zoals in de jaren '80. Ik heb op een oude Ibanez ADL-versie ooit gespeeld, vandaar dat ik durf te vergelijken.
De reden waarom ik het de beste analoge delay pedaal vind voor mijn gitaarspel : Bij hoog aantal repeats versmelt alles mooi samen, zoals bij Catalinbread delay pedalen. De balans tussen dry sound - repeats en clock noise is enorm geslaagd. Bij een Carbon Copy verdwijnen de repeats bijvoorbeeld veel meer naar de achtergrond en door de zachte attack is het minder ritmisch. Bij de Dm2w werken ruis en repeats apart van elkaar en stoort de ruis bij hoge repeats.

De lengte van de delay time is onverwacht groot en zeker groot genoeg. De repeats kunnen krachtig lang gaan. (maar minder dan een boss dm2w)
De repeats hebben de perfecte attack : niet storend , maar wel sfeervol aanwezig. Het pedaal heeft een donkere maar aanwezige sound met een mooie klokruis - grit erop. En knappe zelf-oscillatie.
Bij deze pedaal is de grit altijd wel stevig aanwezig is. Meestal is dat gewenst, maar je hebt er geen controle over. Voor een zachtere grit moet je bij een ander merk zijn. Aan extra modulatie heb je weinig behoefte met zo een aanwezige organische klank.
Minpunt: na meer dan 2 jaar begon er een soort extra ruis op te komen zoals een vervelend gefluister. Teveel vintage:) Thoman heeft het gerepareerd/ nieuwe gegeven. Een top- bedrijf !
Dat gefluister is terug weg.
Qua looks geeft de mini enclosure een verkeerd beeld. Het zou er mogen uitzien als een grotere vintage pedaal. Meer mensen zouden deze Ibanez pedaal dan kopen. Het zou ook handiger spelen met wat grotere knoppen. Hoewel het kleine formaat maar bijzaak is bij zo een formidabele klank.
Voor degenen die het analoge echt aanwezig in hun sound willen, is dit een koopje. Ik vind deze pedaal onderbelicht op you tube en als hij erop komt, komen zijn sterke punten niet duidelijk naar voor.

I really like this pedal.

I use it for one of the following four things:
- double tracker, to thicken my sound up just a bit
- slight slapback, again, just to thicken my sound a bit
- 300ms-ish, background delay with many repeats for crazy solos (which I can't actually pull off, but hey, it's fun to pretend you're a guitar god)
- getting down and doing weird flying saucer noises with it, which is cathartically easy

I find it works great in all four of those situations.

The echoes are pleasantly modulated as they happen and they get out of your way without mushing everything up too much. Although, for my 3rd setup from the list above, I do keep the blend pretty low when I have a few echoes trailing me. Now, it doesn't have any way of controlling the tone of the decay of the echoes, but what I like about this pedal is that it just works. I always love it when a pedal doesn't allow me to get bad tones.

Dropping the delay time close to minimum and diming the blend makes for a great double tracker that just fattens everything up. And, when you're done with this setup, you can bend down and start bringing the repeat knob up to put it into oscillation and start making some alien noises.

The pedal starts oscilating when the feedback knob goes over half; coupled with the fact that it's a tiny mini knob, this can make it hard to get it to just where you like; coupled with the fact that I can't read where the knob is pointing to, I don't even bother. Like I've said, I like the pedal because it's plug'n'play and I just roll with it; if you're into tinkering 2h to get the right delay sound, this pedal will probably irritate you a bit.

Actually, the repeat knob sometimes annoys me because there's so little travel between the '2 echoes' setting and 'full oscillation' that it's hard to dial in a significant number of echoes without wanting to throw it out the window. I find that this is the only problem, controls-wise. But then again, the fact that you have from 12 o'clock to max to control the space-ship noises, this might be considered a plus at the same time.

The delay time goes from unnoticeably short to 600ms. I never dial it over 2/3rds of the way up, so from my point of view there's more than enough delay in this pedal.

Overall I recommend it if you just want a delay pedal that's small and does the four things I've listed above well and you don't want to spend a fortune or a ton of time tinkering with the sound of your delay. This is a no nonsense pedal.

I use it after my overdrive pedals (SL Drive, Mini TS, Malekko Comp), in front of a clean amp (VHT).
I set it with a low mix, more like an ambience almost always on. It doesn't mess up the clarity and notes definition, just makes it more enjoyable and easy to play. But, if you want to ear the repeats à lá U2, after all is a delay pedal, it is very happy to oblidge, it is brilliant little jem.
I had a old AD9, and i love this mini better, the tone is better and the delay time is bigger.
It doesn't have all the bell and whistles, like my Carl Martin EchoTone or other expensive pedals, but for the price is unbeatable.
