Solid Transformerless pre amp with phantom power , MOJO sound shapers , line / HI-Z input on the front and a stepped gain knob.
I like to start with a little warning about this product.
There are multiple versions available.
I came to this conclusion because I already had 4 of these and after ordering 2 extra they looked different.
So what are the differences ?
Version A :
2 input lights ( green and red ) . Green for signal and red for clipping.
No indication if phantom power is on or off, same for HPF and phase reverse.
Version B :
1 input light ( this one bigger and multi color : blue, green , orange, and red ) . This version has an indicator that the phantom power is engaged .
These new lights are " Bright !! "
Gain knobs are a bit bigger and shorter.
So how do they sound?
They sound warm and natural. You can add extra " harmonics " with the mojo function. If i understood correctly the 2 functions ( thump and cream ) simulate two types of circuits ( transformer and tube ) which adds their own characteristics to your sound in a variable way ( rotary knob with off function )
the stepped gain knob is very nice to work with if you need matched gain setting.
Down side : version A has no phantom power indicator only a filled in circle on the left side of the button. This circle is to show you that it is on... which the manual never spoke of.. the same for the HPF and phase reverse switches. So it caused some confusion when working with these cards.
Conclusion :
Very nice pre amps for your 500 series rack. solid . Not the most expensive ones out there and that is a big PRO ... Work very well with the Cranborne 500r8 and adat version
