The shorter neck of this version may seem like you can place the mic lower/closer to the rim, compared to the d57. However, the opposite is true. The longer neck of the 57 can be twisted so that you can place the mic at any angle/position relative to the drumhead. The neck of the d58 can not be twisted this much, so you have a very limited set of positions you can put the mic in.
Just get the D57, it’s even slightly cheaper!
